The first piece of martial arts gear you will need when you begin your training is a uniform. The uniform used in all forms of martial arts is basically the same. They are constructed of durable cotton canvas that is going to be strong and resilient. For the younger student there are lighter cotton and polyester blend uniforms that are easier to wear and not as rough on the skin.
The next piece of martial arts gear a student will need will be a belt. When a student begins martial arts they will wear a white belt and as the student progressing and is assessed through demonstration and competition, the color will progress until it reaches black. The colors used in between white and black vary depending on what type of martial art you study.
When you study martial arts a large part of your training will involve sparring. Sparring is usually light or no contact. But if you are studying other forms, for example, kickboxing, then it is important that you wear the proper sparring equipment. This martial arts gear will include foot and hand protection, mouthpiece and headgear. It is a sensible idea to buy head gear that has ear release canals. This protects your ear should you receive a blow to the head. Without the release canal the air inside your headgear could compress into your ear canal and rupture your ear drum, the canal gives the air a release point and protects your hearing.
